Attendance
Attendance
Alabama state law requires that students are present during school hours. Parents will be notified of student absences by an automated telephone system and by written notification according to the following guidelines:
- An automated telephone call will be made after each absence.
- A letter will be sent home after a student has accumulated five unexcused absences.
- After the seventh unexcused absence, a petition will be filed by the system's attendance officer to the District Attorney's office.
A written note must be provided within three days of the absence to be accepted and coded excused. Please refer to the "Parental Responsibilities" and the "Attendance" sections in the MCS Code of Student Conduct for any other concerns you may have about the attendance policies.
Tardies
The school administration monitors tardiness. It is essential that your child is present at the beginning of the school day. Please be aware that if your child arrives after 7:40 a.m. or is checked out prior to 2:40 p.m. it will be considered a tardy. Excessive tardiness will be addressed as truancy, and the Madison City School policy for truancy will be followed.
